College Magazine front cover evaluation

College Magazine front cover.

For my front cover there many things that went. Firstly the page layout; the page is arranged in a specific way. The masthead is at the top of the page, on the left. I named my college magazine 'LSC' which is the college's abbreviations, I also ensured the font is similar to the font of the college's name. The title is elongated upwards which allows a better focus on the image. The text is all on the left side of the page, line by line, there is also a considerate amount of space between the lines for it to have a clean look and not look too crammed. I also made sure I did not use a lot of text across my magazine, this makes it look simple and easy to read. Tawny also stated that it was easy to read when we peer assessed each others work.

However, there are improvements i could have made regarding the layout of my magazine which was suggested  Hanni was to use more of the magazine content as subheadings to engage with the target audience.

There are many positives about my main cover page picture. I placed my image on the right side of the page and allowed space on the right side of the page for the text. The image also has a concrete background.

Despite the strong imagery, to improve I must use direct address and make eye contact.

One of the other factors I was successful in doing is having a consistent colour scheme, I followed the three colour scheme. I made my main text yellow and boxed it with a light grey to match the concrete backround. This allows it to look more neat and visible for the readers, easier to read. The colours also contrast nicely.

In order to improve I was given feedback from my teacher(s) that I should use some cover line text outside the cover line box.

Contents Page:

For my contents page, my layout is very simple. At the top of the page you have two images the represent the institution, Then you have the title 'contents' underneath the picture. On the right is the Page name followed by a few lines of description of the article. On the opposite side is the page numbers. I made sure to use all capital letters throughout and a consistent font. This is the same font I have used for my front cover.

There are numeral improvements I could make in terms of the layout of my magazine, firstly it is very simple, perhaps too simple and does not attract the audience's attention straight away despite being very easy to read. There are also many other features I could have used for my contents page.

I have used 3 different images on my magazine, the first image one is of an art piece in the college dining area, the second is of a students work, the third is of the outside area of the college. One of the major improvement I should make is replace the third image with my own photography as it was taken from the college website.

I have used the three colour scheme rule successfully in my contents page. I have continued using the same colours which I have used for the front page of the magazine.
